The village of Vik is known for its famous "old cheese”, Gamalost. The tour combines a cheese tasting with some of the best tourist attractions Norway has to offer: a visit to Hopperstad Stave Church, Storesvingen View Point and the Tvindefossen waterfall. Another highlight of this trip is a crossing of the magnificent Sognefjord aboard on Glaciertour’s boat.
Departure from
the Tourist Information office
The tour starts by minibus outside the Tourist Information office in Bergen. From here we'll be heading east. After about 1,5 hours we will make a short stop in Voss to collect passengers joining us from here.
From Voss, we continue towards the village Vik. This drive will lead us across the Vikafjell passage and through stunning landscapes high up in the mountains. Don't be surprised to see some snow at these altitudes - even in the summertime.
Vik village and
Hopperstad Stave Church
Back on the bus, we continue down to Vik, a village steeped in cultural heritage. The main attraction here is the “Hopperstad Stavkirke”, a stave church dating back to 1130. Next to the Urnes, it is the oldest stave church in existence. During this 30 min. stop, you can explore the church at your own pace or join a guided tour offered in both English and Norwegian (included in the price).
Guided tour in Vik and Cheese tasting
Fjordcruise across the Sognefjord and into the Fjærlandsfjord
From Blix Hotel we take a short drive to the harbour in Vik where the tour continues by boat to Fjærland. The fjord cruise lasts about 2 hours and the ticket is included. With a choice of indoor seating or an inviting deck complete with fantastic views, this boat trip guarantees a relaxing journey and beautiful scenery. If all that fresh Fjord air has made you peckish, you'll be able to enjoy light dishes such as pasta, baguettes, soup, toast, and various beverages in the boat's café (at your own coast).
The Sognefjord is the deepest and longest fjord in Norway, from which we will enter the Fjærlandsfjord. With high mountains on either side, the Fjærlandsfjord is extremely picturesque.
The beautiful village Fjærland
On the descent from Vikafjell mountain to Vik, the bus will stop at the viewpoint “Storesvingen” (about one hour from Voss). The viewpoint offers excellent photo opportunities with magnificent views of Vik Village and Sognefjorden.
Viewpoint
“Storesvingen”
Join us for a walk around the historical surroundings of Vikøyri. We will stroll between small picturesque homes and boathouses that make up the beach dweller settlement at Vikøyri. We will visit one of the small homes that still retains its original charm from back in the day.
The tour will include a tasting of the local specialty, "Gamalost", a cheese that originated in Viking times. The local dairy farm is the only one in Norway producing this cheese today. Along with the cheese, you will also be served raspberry juice. The Vik municipality produces approximately 25% of all raspberries in Norway. All our trips are in cooperation with our partners.
From Fjærlandsfjord, we continue on to Fjærland, a charming village that is best explored by foot. The village was only accessible by boat until 1986. With two hours at our disposal here, you can choose to wander around this village on your own or join the guided tour to the glacier and the Norwegian Glacier Museum.
Norwegian Glacier Museum and Bøyabreen Glacier
The Norwegian Glacier Museum is modern and family-friendly. Learn everything there is to know about glaciers and climate in new and innovative ways. The entry fee is included in the tour.
From the Norwegian Glacier Museum, the tour continues by bus up to Bøyabreen glacier - a branch of Jostedalsbreen glacier. You'll have plenty of time here to get that Instagram-worthy picture of the glaciers melding into the surrounding landscape. While you won't be able to walk on the glacier, being in close proximity is an experience in itself. From here the bus will return to Fjærland quay, where the same boat will take you back to Vik. From Vik, the tour continues by bus to the spectacular Tvindefossen waterfall.
From the waterfall, we continue by bus towards Voss. We will stop here to let off any passengers before we head back to Bergen. We arrive at the Tourist Information Office at around 20:35.
Return
to Bergen
The Tvindefossen waterfall is 110 meters high and popular among tourists. There are many myths related to the Tvindefossen waterfall and we will leave it up to the guide to let you in on some of them. You can get quite close to the water, making it a memorable attraction for visitors.
